Buster, I would go with Medfarm and Dale's suggestions first. If that is not the problem, then you have a half day's work ahead of you. You will have to remove the steering column, seat, rear light, gas tank and the belt pulley assembly if you have one. Then you can unbolt and pull the decking. Careful it is heavy. Also I hope your bolt heads are not too corroded on the deck. Let us know what you see about the shifter and forks before you go further.
