If you're going to paint the grille surround white, then go for the whole 1206 treatment and also do the dogleg panels in white :)
That would look pretty neat, but it wouldn't be "correct." Everything should be red except the grill screen (black) and the white stripe down the sides. Doglegs are correct red.
