Very common problem with these tractors. After you change filter, and if it doesn't prime up yet, take the plug out of mcv, (this is the large valve assembly on left side of ta housing)look on the rear ward side of the valve assembly, there are several plugs, sending unit and dump valve, well the plug with the 5/8th head on it will allow air in front of pump and flow divider valve to escape. Rev her up and stand back, I always throw a big rag around it and if it does start coming out it will come like heck so shut her off , put plug back in.There are many reasons this happens, weak pump, cold oil, clogged filter, moisture in oil, low fluid level, suction leaks etc but if it works after new filter clean fluid and correct fluid level you are good to go.
