The 340 is actually not directly descended from a letter series. It's actually unique in that respect.
As I understand it, H based tractors continually grew in horsepower, but the C based tractors remained pretty much stagnant. A HP gap developed between the 230 and 350, which only got bigger between the 240 and 460.
The 340 was a mostly-new design, but if you were to ask me, it more closely related to the C than the H. Like the C, it does not have a frame.
