Hey, Ya"ll! I"ve always had pretty decent luck tapping on the valve surface. I always felt that it worked better with less chance of bending the stem, if I used a plastic or hard rubber mallet directly on the valve surface. As was stated, once it begins to move a hair get it back up and then tap it down again. PATIENCE is key to this method working. Of course, it"s always a pretty good bet that the valve guide is gonna be scarred up and she"ll be smoking even when you get it freed up.
