Neither the belly pump nor the M&W can tell the difference between hytran and SAE 30 motor oil. You can use either in either. You could use vegetable oil if you want.
All hytran is, is SAE 30 engine oil with additives. The additives are why people recommend hytran. SAE 30 non-detergent oil is nearly impossible to find, and regular SAE 30 foams like crazy in a hydraulic system.
By the way, everyone, it's not 30W oil. The W stands for WINTER, not weight. It's SAE 30, or 30 Wt., or 30 weight.
