Can you tell if you get blue oil smoke when you first start it up? It sounds like you may not have quite enough compression on starting and it gets better when the rings get hot. If it were a problem with the injectors, it would not clear up when you get it started. You might want to run a compression test. If the main seal was so worn that you had to replace it, the entire engin may be well worn. In any case, diesels can be a booger to start in cold weather.
