I agree with the other guys here. If you have to crank the 6V starter long enough to burn it up when you convert to 12V, you've got other problems that deserve attention...points, plugs, coil, carburetion, or bad bushings causing binding in the starter itself. But most of the 12V conversions I've seen have had zero problems with the starter.
