Allen, According to the owner's manual for the baler the distance from the end of the pto shaft to the center of the hitch pin for the baler is to be 16 inches for 1000 pto. On those JD balers and I suppose other brands too, there is an add on piece for the hitch that slides over the tractor hitch and extends the hitch backwards about 12 inches. The ball hitch on the baler then drops onto a pin welded into that extension. No problem hooking up the pto shaft after baler hitched up. Probably about 5 inches that the pto shaft has to be extended from fully compressed to hook it up. If I had put the tractor hitch in the front hole, the pto shaft would have been almost fully extended to the point of coming un-coupled. Does that help you envision my situation a little better. Should of mentioned that earlier. My mistake!
