help. i cant get this h to charge. new v-reg and genny rebuilt. i took the genny back to the rebuilder, he put it on the machine when i was there, it charges perfect. btw, the genny is an early 1960's delco remy 12v from a chevy. reinstalled the genny, polarized it, still nothing. a terminal on gen to gen term on vr. field on gen to field on vr. bat on vr to ammeter, then on to + on battery cable. l terminal on vr to fuse box on h, powers lights and ignition. with the tractor running, i grounded field term on genny to case. nothing. i ran also a separate ground from the gen mounting bolts to the mounting bolt on the vr and then on to neg battery terminal. all connections crimped and soldered. new number 10 wire. engine off, turning on the headlights, ammeter swings to discharge prolly 3-5 amps. good voltage at both ammeter terminals, and the L terminal on the vr. with the genny field terminal grounded,tractor running, i jumped the bat term and the gen terminal on vr momentarily, ammeter swung to 20 amp discharge, good spark too. with the field grounded and engine on, tested voltage at gennys arm terminal, read zero. what am i missing??? new vr bad maybe? even tried leaving tractor running with headlamps on and grounding field term on genny, still no charge.
