If it just will not get smooth or stay running with out popping back, make sure the plug wires are on: 2-1 4-3 Looking from the back. If the valves are sticking open (and they can very easily) it will misfire until they are freed up by taking the valve cover off, and using PB Blaster (or the type you like except WD40) and tapping on the retainers. Just tap downward with a plastic mallet. If they stay down, they can be gently (and evenly pried back up). work them until they close by themselves, and re install the valve train. Be sure to get the pushrods on the lifters! JimN
