I suspect your problem has something to do with the detent on the 2nd and 3rd shift rail detent., but you are going to have to pull the top cover off to see and fix whatever is wrong. The hardest part of getting the cover off is getting the bolts out that are usually rusted into the cover or have heads that are too deteriorated for a socket to work. Cutting the heads off with a torch and heating the cover at the bolt holes, especially the ones on the rear, while driving a putty knife into the gasket joint is about the only way to loosen it up. I've had to do that on two different tractors. If they all just unscrew out normally,
you've got it made. You will need some kind of lift, hoist, or a tractor with a loader to raise the cover because it is extremely heavy. The rails are attached to the underside of the cover. Good Luck!
