The International 300 utility was meant to be the Ford's competition. Also has more HP and is heavier. Appeared in 1955, I don't know what the Ford model was at the time -- it wasn't the 8N. As to a smaller tractor with a wide front, that would be the Super A or A1, or the Farmall 100/130. No three points, had a 1 point fast hitch. You can get aftermarket 3 points for them -- no draft control, though. Having said that, I would prefer a Farmall C/Super C/200/230. Not low profile, but beats an 8N hands down. Utility tractors (newer) are the International 424,444, etc, which should be quite competitive with the later (mid-60's) Ford utilities.
