An 8v batt will light a 6v light. A bit brighter than a 6v batt, but not too much. First off, you need to check the battery to ensure it has a charge on it. Do this with a voltmeter (multimeter). Secondly set the multimeter to the resistance scale and check the light, it should read practically no resistance if it's good, high resistance or "open" means it's no good. You said you had checked the lights though and that they were good. How did you do this? Lastly, you can always take the batt to the auto parts store and have them check it.
