You just need to spend a few bucks and get a much better sickle mower. Find an IH 1000 or 1100. Wobble box trail type mower. I use on and cut 5 foot high brome grass, alfalfa and everything and it just mows the stuff down (pun). But like anything used, you need to get the manual, adjust the tilt correctly, adjust and or replace wear plates, get modern serrated under knife and get everything right. Grass bars are always missing, they need to be in place. Lead at the tip set right. Weight at the outer and inner shoe setup right. It ain't rocket science, it's a little tougher!
