There is a resistor on the switch that is (more than likely) burned out. To replace it you can purchase a new switch, substitute a 100 watt 5 ohm resistor, or use a resistor out of a heater speed control block from many older cars. They will need to be crimped in because they all get hot when used (enough to smoke any oil off of them, so careful location is necessary. Best of luck JimN
