I've never encountered what you're describing, but if I understand you correctly you should be able to make your own driver from a Torx screw. Just find one with the right size head, tightly lock the threaded end in a pair of Vise Grips, and use the assembly as you would a nut driver.
On the other hand, you may be describing a tamper-resistant Torx screw. These have the normal recessed Torx socket but also a small rod in the center of the hole. The rod prevents the insertion of a regular Torx driver. If this is what you're facing, you can buy special bits from tool or electronics suppliers.
