You don't have to split the tractor. The seal you are talking about is the transmission input shaft seal. If you have a belly hydraulic pump, you probably want to replace the counter shaft (bottom shaft) seal as well while you are in there. To replace these seals, you do have to remove the belly pump and the clutch shaft. It's a bit tricky to get the clutch shaft out from under the bottom, but it can be done. Both the top and bottom seals run on the couplings, not the shafts, so you have to get the shaft couplings off the shaft before you can remove the seal holders. The top shaft has a key and must be pulled or pryed off with a pry bar. The bottom shaft coupling is screwed on and unscrews in the counter clockwise direction. It's usually on there tight and can be difficult to break loose to unscrew it.
