Removing the top cover is not necessary to replace the input shaft bearings.
Remove the Lift-All pump assembly. Remove the drive shaft coupler. Remove the front flange of the transmission input shaft. Remove the bolts holding the input shaft assembly to the transmission frame. Remove the input shaft assembly.
The two input shaft bearings will be in the assembly you removed. The main shaft pilot bearing can be serviced through the opening where the input shaft was located.
