Magnaflux is a good idea. No sense not fixing all the cracks. My block appears to have been frozen. Everything on the carb side was pushed out. The block was welded by the guys who ground the crank, Engelke Engineering in Lester Prairie, MN. Their spray welding set up looked like a litle paint cup on a oxy-acetylene (sp?) torch. They also have a big oven.
The quoted cost was $12 per inch. Shot blasting (ruined the governor bushing), Welding the deck and the webs under the deck, milling the deck, and brazing the external crack behind the carb was $288.
Cycling the block in and out of the oven may have affected the shape a little. Refitting the main caps was a little fiddly to get the crank to turn easily.
