You can remove the belt pulley housing and leave the PTO assembly on there. You will have to locate a cover to replace the belt pulley assembly. YOu can't just use a flat plate, as the shaft and gear that drive the belt pulley protrude past the PTO assembly. There is an IH part for this, IH part 9092D. You will also need a gasket, part no. 60581D and if you want to do the job right, a spacer, part number 48152D. The spacer is to put on the shaft in place of the gear that drives the pulley assembly. I don't think you have to remove the gear, as I believe the cover will accomodate it. However, the gear is really part of the pulley assembly and is necessary if someone wants to add a pulley to a PTO not originally equipped with a pulley. If you want to take off the gear, you will need a puller and a bearing separator to get the tear off the shaft. Easier to leave it on.
