Mike CA said: (quoted from post at 14:09:19 05/04/08) When I tried to start my lawnmower this afternoon it wouldn't catch. I pulled the choke back as I've always done and gave it a couple swift pulls, but nothing. After about 10 pulls I noticed gas was coming out of the exhaust. So I'm guessing I've flooded it?
Mike: I'd say you flooded it if you pulled it 10 times with the choke on and gas is pouring out the exhaust. In fact, it might be said you drowned it. Pull the spark plug. Turn off the choke. Open the throttle fully. Pull it through about 15 times. Dry the plug off. Check for spark by laying the plug against the block with the wire reconnected to it. If you get a good blue spark then reinstall plug. Make sure the kill switch or lanyard is in the run position (if it has such). Try starting about 4 cranks with no choke. If that does not work, then choke it with two pulls. Then if still not started, turn choke off and again crank without choke.
If that does not work, then check fuel quality. Make sure fuel is fresh.
If that does not work, then junk lawnmower and buy a Woods belly mower for the family Farmall H. Mow with H, thus proving to wife once and for all that getting H was a great idea.

The difficulty with all those "theory of operation" texts is that they border on principles of electricity or physics and such. Since I know nothing of either, you will have to put up with looking at the common sense side of how generators work which means we "
