Lay it on its metal back, you are looking at the lip. The flat side is opposite the oil, the other side faces the oil, or it will leak. I have never worked on a TA, only my 460 HU has a TA. But the principle is the same, regardless of whether you are talking about TA seals, axle seals or whatever. As to which side you drive it in on, that depends on what the seal is fitting into. Simpler if you can drive the flat side, but that is not always the case. Long answer to a simple question.
