Tractor off, battery good and connected, Amp gauge good, Battery voltage found at the connection going from the cutout to the amp gauge. If you then jump from that terminal, to the other on connected to the Armature (big terminal on gen) it should spark. Not bad, but a solid spark. If it does not spark, the generator is open. This means it is not connected to ground through its frame, or the windings are internally open, or the brushes are not in contact with the armature. Measure the resistance of the Arm post on the gen to ground, it should be almost no resistance, less than an ohm. If more, the gen needs to be checked out internally (possible trip to the store to test it. JimN
