for a simple carb, them things can cause you more grief than an ex wife. i think they are possessed by carb gremlins. some things to check that i have come across are. first check the float to see if its bent and or dragging on the side of the carb bowl. check the needle and seat for burrs. check the shaft that holds the float, if it fits loose, it can slide out and make the float stick, you may need to squeeze the one post with pliers to get it to hold better. check the bowl gasket to see if it sticks too far in and is holding the float down. check the bowl for any cracks, check also for cracks around the main jet too.
