Happy to say I did the full 30 yrs and few days over just for good measure. The last 8 years were spent as a Command Master Chief and ended up closing my career out at the Headquarters for the Pacific Fleet Staff in Pearl Harbor. It kept getting easier in many ways the longer I stayed but as others will say, it also changed a lot over that period and not all of the changes were for the good. This "Kindler and Gentler" Navy of today is a far cry from what this and many other "Tin Can" sailor experienced in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. I will always maintain that the best sailors come from a farm in the midwest bar few if any.
