VA Gasman, I have had mice get inside the bellhousing through the timing hole in the front. They built a nest and wet in there and made a mess. You can pull the little plate off the bottom of the back cover, There are two bolts to remove it and check things out. Some guys over greased the throw out bearing this would be a good time to clean extra grease out of there. I would not put something to hold the clutch down it will compress the springs in the pressure plate that might weaken them in my opinion. The serial number is in three places, Tag on tool box, motor block, and frame rail all three #'s match on my tractors.
