He's gone now, but your dad's friend brings my great-grandfather to mind. He stayed on the big tractors up until he was ninety, and would still spend days cultivatin' beans on the BN until he was 94. Even after that, he stayed busy with carpentry and such around the place, keepin' active up until his last two or three months.
His son, my grandfather had to give up farmin' his own place at about age 85, but he'd still go out and help my uncle work ground that he'd rented for another few years.
It'd be arrogant to say they don't make 'em like that anymore, 'cause they still do. But the economics of it makes it hard if not impossible for them to keep doin' what they love to do.
