Hi Retiree,Since you are losing hydraulic functions on a slope, first thing would be to check Hytran hydraulic fluid level in transmission. The dipstick is by your left heel on side of transmission case. It does not hurt to overfill the transmisson by about 5 gals. Also change the hydraulic filter in canister under left foot rest. Since brakes don't work, they will require bleeding. There is a bleed screw over each rear axle. The bleeding procedures are in a recent post for 454 or 784. 454,464,574,674,484,584,584,784,884 are all same tractor except for engine.
