There is no such thing as a high temp putty that will stay in place with exhaust temps. If it is a putty material, it has not been run hard sense being put in. The oil could be contaminated with water from the hole, but I would depend on it being some other source. If you are considering buying, I would get a conditional agreelment that puts the seller in a position of changing the oil and filter, then running it (with you present for at least 2 or three hours) This might seem excessive, but it might cost a thousand dollars to repair the issue. And that would do no one any good. JimN
