One of my 140's has ser # 3732XXJ, which sounds very close to yours. Same wiring set up except I replaced the gen/volt reg with a alternator. If you turn the key one click to the right, the coil will get HOT.
One trick I've learned is to stop the tractors by turning off the fuel at the tank separator and letting it stop from lack of fuel. Mine now start right up even after sitting for 6 or 7 weeks.
