Sure it would , if it is worn that bad that the point gap changes it will also effect the pickup coil gap as well . Watch when you take it apart, the length of the bolts that hold the points plate [inside] can"t change .
I put some new ones in that were alittle longer and they hit the plate that spins around the weights . It bent the plate and made a mess out of everything . Watch how you put it back together .
