We had this problem with out H and my Dads Super H. and like the other guys said they werent painted, if you look in vintage photos you see no paint on them. Well we wanted to protect them some how and just not let them rust up. (i was unaware that there is a spray on paint that does this). And we didnt want to paint them in a heavy paint cause we do slide the hubs for plowing and some times transporting. So we used stove black paint. I know not correct how ever they do look good IMO anyway. and since the stove paint is soo thin they slide on the axel very welll, heck i slid them me alone with there sets of weights on them with not to much effort.
