I think you are on the right track. I was looking at that last fall. The D V 550 is a diesel version of the 549 gas engine. The 550 was such a disaster that I H built a different version with a different combustion chamber and called it a 9 Liter. A liter is about 61 cubic inches, do the math and it works.
