I have a 55 cub that i had all new brearings , seals ,springs and detent balls installed and it still wines . I tried thicker oils but that just kills the shifting in cold weather . We have found useing full syn 90 weight gear oil works well [ Royal Purple ] . It still makes noise but shifting and smoothness is great. Like everyone else has said this is normal for straight cut gears in a transmission. Drain it out and run some ATF in it for a couple of hours and then put good oil in it. People will debate useing automatic trans fluid in it but it cleans very well and it is fine for your truck. It protects far more advanced transmissions then this cub trans .
