You didn't say if the manifold is OK. I would think after 20 years on gas the pre-heat lever is frozen in the gas position. If it works then help yourself to distillate, I would, but if its stuck it may be more trouble than its worth to make it work. My tractor is set up for dual fuels but the manifold is shot. My choise is to replace it with a gas-only manifold.
