the best way to get to the auger bed is to remove head and throat, from combine. then it easyer to work on the auger bed it most likly be better to replace the bed as to repair if you plan on keeping the machine. the wood block on end of shaft is some sorta special wood whitch has been pre soaked in oil or been put under pressure to inbead oil. i removed and replace set of auger bed in a jd. some years ago they came out the front . replaced a front axle on a 1440 this fall so it look to me like the auger beds come ot the fron on the ih also.
