Don't know the correct answer, but I have a 666 with the 312. A buddy of mine has a 686 with 310. Mine seems to start easier, has a bit more power as well as lugging ability. It even burns less fuel if that makes sense. We have worked them both side by side, and he wants to trade every time we see each other. As to why they switched on the 686 is a mystery to me. Maybe someone can tell us both about the reasoning for the switch to 310.
