prolly the bendix got stuck out on the starter. pretty common. couple ways to do it. 1, with ignition off, put tractor in 5th and rock the back wheel just enough to get the motor to turn a little, ooorr... leave it in neutral and ignition off, turn the fan a little to get the motor to turn , that may be enough to release the bendix, then try starter again. if that doesnt work, there are two big bolts that hold the starter to the block, loosen them some wiggle starter, put back in, tighten up, and try again. if you need to remove the starter all the way, take those two bolts out, and remove battery cable to slide the starter out.
