The guys that go into such things as governors, rear end and transmission bearings, pto, wiring, carburators, steering boxes, etc., just every minor detail, are well known and their reproductions bring top dollars. One just has to go through the photo adds here at YT, 95% of the restored tractors are paint restorations. I can easily understand the disbelief, amoung YT readers.
I agree, the Sherwin Williams restorations are not true restorations - the ads should read "repainted, runs good." I have over $3000 in my '42 H just with mechanical rebuilding, and I haven't touched the transmission or rearend... or new tires, etc. No paint yet, either. To do something right costs big $$!
A tractor with a documented restoration (pictures and receipts) should easily bring whatever the receipts total and probably more.
