Terry: For the most part I agree with Rob, however I know a guy has restored about 15 tractors. I also know his restorations all started with complete rebuilding of power train. He strips them end to end and has also done a 54 Super H. His Super H can't be bought for $7,000. It would take more money, but bear in mind a lot of folks know what went into his restoration.
Yes, I agree a set of pistons, sleeves and a decent paint job will never bring anywhere near $7,000.
I know another guy, has over 100 restored letter series Farmalls. I don't know his reputation for doing complete mechanical and cosmetic restorations, however he did tell me when he started over 30 years ago it was costing him roughly $2,500. per tractor. As of 2005 that figure is close to $10,000. Word soon spreads how detailed these guys have been, and I suspect they may get most of their money back if they decided to sell.
