Rich, don't waste your cash on a starter rebuild shop. Take it off, take a fine emory cloth, put in a vise,clean the brass commutator like you would a shaft with the emory cloth, then take a broken hack saw blade and clean the grooves on the commutator, when you get it apart, you ill see what I mean. They are very, very simple to work on. Also check the springs on the brushes to make sure they are not weak. If you are not 100% sure on brushes and springs, go to starter shop, get a bunch of Delco Remy starter brushes and springs and keep 'em around, then put back together and put a little grease in the bushings at each end of the shaft. I know you have the ability to do this simple job. If you were not 5 hours away, I would show you how to do it. Jim
