I rencently aquired a 1947 Farmall A . It doesn't run good and after checking carb, points, and plugs didn't help with running problem I checked compression and got a pretty even 60 to 70 psi I squirted oil in the cylinders and compression increased very little on a couple of cylinders around 70 to 78 psi. I am thinking valves. So I jump to conclusion and start pulling head. After I get head off I poured kerosene in the ports of intake and exhaust valves, not a drop leaked by any valve. also very little ridge at top of cylinder so now I am wondering what might be causing my low compression. Also how do I know if it is a distillate engine? it has a 3 inch bore with what I will call a cutaway dish in the pistons.
