All Ms had five gears. Fifth is always about 17 to 18 MPH wide open stock. The high speed gear was in 4th, and was just somewhat faster. If your tractor seems to only have 4, there may be a lockout bolt in place in the trans top (front left of shift tower on the flat part of the deck) this bolt stops the shifting into a gear that is actually in the trans. If I had an MV, I would be reluctant to drive it wide open in fifth, unless on clear straight and un congested road. But 12 to 14 would be fine with me. I hope this helps. JimN
