I've seen M's that did not come with the belt pulley and had a cover. I'm sure some H's were like that too. Unbolt the perimeter bolts from the belt pulley and it'll pull right out. Have some help though asthey are quite heavy! Then you can make a template out of cardboard of the opening to use as a pattern to make a steel cover. I have an M with a factory cover and it's about 1/8" or so thick.
