Got the mower in, pulleys are off, bless those tapered sheave pullies. What I'm seeing is shafts are tight, bearings are smooth. Right shaft does not leak grease, center one only slightly and left one excessively. I think the cause is me being too liberal with grease. Former owner was using grease and I suspect all bottom seals may leak if gear oil is used.
I have looked this situation over and decided two new seals will be the short term fix along with moly or Deere corn head grease. My reasoning, looking at the assembly system complete with press fit bearings, I'll get as many hours as I can with seals and lighter grease then buy complete assemblies. As I see it a guy could find himself mucking around in grease every two weeks for a long time in doing in box rebuilds. Having said that, I'll keep an assembly on hand, and with the pulleys I have it's quick change.
