SDE: Made that same mistake, had 3 friends show up just as I had the tractor ready to split. 1-1/2 hours later we were putting the clutch housing bolts back in. No one bothered to sit down and do the inspection, is it going right. Within minutes my buddies left.
First thing I did was try to adjust the clutch. At least I saved myself doing the wiring, hydraulic lines, fuel line, choke, etc. That night I resplit the tractor, taking 4 hours and very carefully watching everything I did. One tends not make those mistakes too often.
