Capacity is 4 1/8 gallons. Drain it completly, including the block, put the correct amount in it and see what it does. Sometimes you "fill" the radiator, start and run it, then add to the proper level. Unless you ran it nearly dry, I doubt if you hurt anything. If it overheats again, drain and flush the system, also remove and clean under the plate on the left side of the engine. It will be full of crud. The radiator probably needs to be "rodded"--but it could be all that is holding it together is rust, meaning you may end up buying a new radiator. If so, the new one will likely be pressurized.
