A good (and original) solution is to try to find the IHC option, a "7 mph road gear," which the company offered after rubber tires became available. At high-idle, you should get about 8 mph, which would get you over the 1/4 mi. pretty fast. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent going back and forth a mile each way with a wagon to pick up hay or grain, pulling with an F-12 at 4 mph. I don't know how complicated it is to install these gears.
