The timing is very important if you have a magneto. Not so much with a distributor where it can be turned to a greater degree. While rebuilding my '51 H, I snapped a picture of what the drive slot would look like at TDC, 1 tooth ahead, and 1 tooth behind. I dropped it in the Parts and Pieces gallery. You can save it and upsize to get a clearer view. You will definitely be able to tell if you're off.
